Tip of the Month: Clean out your gutters and downspouts.
The #1 reason that homeowners end up with water in their basement is their gutters or downspouts are not flowing. Always make sure that there are no blockages and that the water is flowing away from the house. I like to actually go out during a heavy rain to make sure!

Spring maintence check list
Spring is here and if you own a home there are some things that should be on your checklist of thing to do. There are some basic chores that all homeowners should do to make sure your home stays in the condition that lasts a lifetime.
1. Replace your smoke detector battery once a year, most 9 volt batteries do not last much longer than that.
2. Check, clean, or replace your furnace's air filter. This should be done every month during the heating season. If you have High and Low air returns, close the low ones, and open the high ones. This will draw out all the warm air, and keep the cool air in, this will reduce energy costs and keep your A/C unit from working so hard in the summertime!
3. If you have a chimney have it cleaned or serviced as needed.
4. Check your air conditioning system, this should be serviced every two to three years. Summer's just around the corner.
5. Check your dehumidifier and give it a clean and clean it's air filter!
6. Have your water checked for quality if necessary. It's recommended that your water be tested every 6 months if you have a well.
7. Clean all your windows. Check all your screens for holes and repair if needed. Bugs are coming soon!
8. Check your sump pump if you have one, and make sure it's working correctly. It doesn't hurt to reach down in and pull the float up and drain the pit completely.
9. It's time to start the yard work! Now is the time for weed and feed. Dandelions are everywhere!
10. Inspect roof, clean your gutters and downspouts, clogged roof drainage often ends in a flooded basement! The maple seedlings are everywhere this time of year.
